Steam Our Scotsman Appeal

Flying Scotsman is a national icon - representing the apex of British engineering and the romance of steam for the public. In 2004 the National Railway Museum rescued Flying Scotsman for the nation ensuring the locomotive maintains its place as the 'people's locomotive'.

Since the Museum acquired Flying Scotsman, the locomotive has undergone a huge amount of work in order to be fully functional and back on the rails. However, due to the cost of rising copper and the poor condition of the boiler, the restoration has cost a great deal more than anticipated.

We urgently need to raise £250,000 to get Flying Scotsman back on line.

A steam engine is made up of numerous parts and every one of these needs to be examined during an overhaul. All donations received for the SOS Appeal will be spent directly on this locomotive. Please help us to get this much-loved, magnificent engine ‘in steam’ and back on the tracks. Your support is very much appreciated.

Additionally, if you give £10 or more, we’ll send you a special SOS certificate and keep you updated on the work on Flying Scotsman. You can also receive recognition on the Wall of Fame if you let us know when you make your donation.
